INDIAN CREEK BISON RANCH TOURS are given, by appointment, throughout the year by owner Jerry Schmidt. The herd was established in 1989 and today the herd varies from 30 to 45 animals.
The tour begins with a narrative about Native American's and how they depended on the bison for every aspect of thier existence on the plains. There is a Native American artifact display; weapon and tool replica's; and other bison items which Native American's would have used in everyday life. The hisory of bison is explained from the time they roamed in the millions to their near extinction in 1880's.
After the narrative the tour group will be able to get a close up view of the herd. Everyone will be within a few feet of some of the animals. During this time Jerry will talk about bison characteristics; methods used to raise and care for bison; and handling of the bison. Any and all question about bison are welcome.
Groups of less than five persons usually will ride in the back of a truck; groups of up to 20 will ride on a small trailer; and groups of 20 or more will be on a larger trailer. The trailers have sides and the participants seats are straw bales.
